The idea of having to put a loved one into a retirement home is an emotional one and it's something many families prefer not to have to think about. But if you have a loved one who is getting up there in years and is clearly showing signs of problems due to old age, you owe it to them to begin researched senior living homes in your area. Here are three clear signs which indicate that you should get your loved one some professional assistance.
Your Loved One is Lashing Out
Do you have an elder member of your family who just isn't acting like themselves anymore? It's not uncommon for senior suffering from dementia, Alzheimer's or other effects of old age to start demonstrating different behavior than what you are used to. If your loved one has violent outbursts, they might end up hurting themselves or someone else and you are probably not fully equipped to handle the situation yourself.
An Unsafe Environment
Has your loved one suffered a fall or had another mishap inside their own home? If you believe it is becoming less safe to leave your loved one alone to take care of themselves, it might be best to send them somewhere where they can always be watched closely. Sure, you could try and tell them they can't use stairs anymore or you could remove all sharp objects from the home, but are you 100 percent sure they will listen to your advice when you are not around?

Caregivers often feel guilty about putting their loved ones into assisted or senior living because they think it means they didn't try hard enough or that they gave up.
